Icelandic Sheep

Icelandic Sheep are an intelligent, beautiful and hardy breed of sheep. Icelandic Sheep are prized for their magnificent fleece, gourmet meat, easy lambing and milking ability. Here at Pine Hollow Farm, our flock of Icelandic Sheep comes in a range of beautiful colors and patterns from browns (morrits) to black badger faces as well as white and spotted varieties. Our Icelandic Sheep flock comes from top quality breeding stock from around the country with roots directly from Iceland as well as milky ewes from an Icelandic Sheep dairy.

Pine Hollow Farm Icelandic Sheep are prolific, often having twins and occasionally triplets. Our Icelandic Sheep ewes have wonderful mothering instincts and have vigorous lambs, which rarely need any assistance in the birthing process, which occurs naturally in our fields at Pine Hollow Farm.

Horned and polled Icelandic Sheep varieties of both rams and ewes exist at Pine Hollow Farm. Our Icelandic Sheep horned rams have beautiful, full-curl horns and are bred only to our horned ewes. Our Icelandic Sheep polled rams are free from scurs and are only bred to our polled ewes.

A Triple purpose breed, our Pine Hollow Icelandic Sheep have received rave reviews for their gourmet lamb meat, have award-winning fleece and have been milked to produce luxuriously moisturizing bars of soap.

Scrapie Freeour Pine Hollow Farm Icelandic Sheep flock is enrolled in the USDA Voluntary Scrapie Program and is registered with the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC). Pine Hollow Farm is also a member of Icelandic Sheep Breeders of North America (ISBONA) as well as the Loudoun Valley Sheep Producers (LVSP).

Icelandic Sheepdogs, with their happy disposition and caring nature are also a part of our Pine Hollow Farm life. We purchased a beautiful little Icelandic Sheepdog puppy named Dalla who has added such joy to our life that we are hoping to someday add a companion for her!

Herding comes naturally to our Icelandic Sheepdog! She herded the sheep from our lower pasture to our upper pasture without any prior herding experience. She also herds our geese, chickens, cats and children when they are running around!

Energetic, loving and intelligent, Icelandic Sheepdogs make wonderful companions. Our Icelandic Sheepdog has won the hearts of friends and family. She licks the cats (when they let her) and barks to let us know when our Labrador retriever wants into the house.

As a Farm Watchdog our Icelandic Sheepdog, Dalla, has alerted us to fox, raccoons and opossums looking for a chicken, goose or peacock dinner. She has saved many animal lives! She has also alerted us to predators near our sheep field by barking to alert us that our Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs are barking (we can't hear them from our home). We love our Icelandic Sheepdog!

Farm Products here at Pine Hollow Farm include beautiful raw Icelandic Sheep fleece, a variety of Icelandic Sheep Milk Soaps, Icelandic Sheep lamb meat, wild flower honey, and occasionally full-curl Icelandic Sheep Horns and luxurious Icelandic Sheep pelts.
